Hartford Lightning Head To Basketball Playoffs On Positive Note

The Hartford Lightning made it through the bulk of winter without really paying the full price for an increasing amount of team dysfunction. The Lightning, in their inaugural season, were 6-2 heading into a road game March 3 against the Hudson Valley Kings in Red Hook, N.Y., and had clearly established themselves as one of the most talented teams in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League.

Recent Blog Entry

I would like to use this time to get the word out to readers of this blog, especially those living in Connecticut, go check out the Hartford Lightning, of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League. (http://hartfordlightning.com)

I was privileged to go a Lightning exhibition game against the Connecticut Topballerz. It was billed as an exhibition but the competitive nature of both teams showed the pride in which they played with. It was a game that saw the Lightning score first early and often by the end of the first quarter, the Lightning had a 35-22 lead. Halfway through the second quarter a very strange non offensive foul was called on Doug Wiggins with the score at 65-45 with 2:50 left in the half. The call was reversed putting Wiggins at the line hitting one free throw, making it 66-45. At the half the score was 71-56. it seemed like the Lightning was in control of the game, however the second half saw the momentum shift the other as the Topballerz played inspired ball and some questionable calls by the refs had made a game of it by the end of the third quarter it was 88-81 Lightning.

With the lead at 90-87 the Ballerz made a run that got them the lead at 92-90, the the Lightning’s Doug Wiggins drive to the basket tied it at 92-92. Wiggins was injured on the play and did not return to action. The Lightning took advantage of the momentum swing putting the game away late with a final score of 126-111.

The next game is Saturday, March 10, 2012 against NYC524 7pm at Sport & Medical Sciences Academy. Come out and show your home court pride and support for the Hartford Lightning.
